‘Community Therapies and Training Service has helped our community to feel closer. They have provided Mental Health Training to our Community Champions and Training to Peer Coaches in addition to wellbeing workshops for staff and residents. 


Their trainers and facilitators have a way of supporting people to develop skills and create safe spaces for people to share their personal stories and explore ways of keeping well.  A variety of techniques are used including massage, herbal teas and healthy food, light exercise, one to one and group chats.  It’s a very uplifting experience.

Community Champions Training in Health/Mental Health Training

My confidence and abilities have been encouraged especially being able to share my lived in experience. I have found that I have hidden talents; I have met and become friends with beautiful people with warm personalities.

 

I shall continue to work for the rafiki project for experience as well as to witness the growth of the project.  I will continue to gain some academic qualifications with the counselling field as well as health and social care, so that I can get qualified enough to gain paid employment within the counselling field.  I also want to help others to be empowered through mine and their own life experiences. Rafiki Community Champion trained in June 2013 also one to one mentoring client.

‘When I first attended training with I was unemployed due to personal and health reasons. When I first started the training I was confused of what type of job I will get, had a low self-steam, lacked confidence and worried that I will not find any job.

 

Naomi helped me to enrol interpreting course with Idea Store in Whitechapel while attending that course I also found advocacy training. Naomi also designed a personal plan to work on improving my confidence and changed my attitude towards finding a job.

 

With on-going support from Naomi I have successfully completed both courses and gained new skills. Within 5 months in to the training programme I am now self-employed doing interpreting and language tuitions. I also have recently started work on an FGM project.
